Los Gigantes is a town located on the western coast of Tenerife. It is well known for Acantilados de Los Gigantes (the cliffs of the Giants) that measures up to 500 meters straight down into the ocean.
The town of Los Gigantes is primarily a tourist based town and was founded in the 1970s, following British investments in the 1960s. The town of Los Gigantes does not have all that many hotels but if you would like to stay here there’s a lot of other residents that you can rent which have high quality. From the town that is located 20 meters above sea level it’s location makes it possible to witness the sheer size of the cliffs.
In the time of the native Guanches the cliffs were referred to as “The Wall of Hell” which is not surprising as due to the fact that the cliffs are extremely steep. The cliffs actually share a remarkable similarity with the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. But even though the cliffs of Log Gigantes are not as famous they are way bigger than the cliffs in Ireland.
If you travel to the western coast of Tenerife to see the cliffs there are also a lot more locations that you can visit. A couple of miles north you have the Masca village which is a famous village founded by the Guanches and it’s a very popular tourist attraction. There are exceptional tours going to this location to make your visit to Los Gigantes into a full day of exploration and adventure.
Staying in the town of Los Gigantes or just going to the cliffs of the Giants is something I sure recommend that you do when in Tenerife. It’s a great experience and it gives you that sensation of how powerful nature is in construction such magnificent structures.
Tenerife is not really known for their success in Football. Even though there are some successful players that comes from the Canary Islands like David Silva. The team primary team CDTenerife have had its ups and downs. But for one time in history they played 10 years in the first division of La Liga.
The history of football in Tenerife starts in 1912 when Tenerife Sporting Club was founded. The team was founded by merging smaller teams together into one. In 1922 they changed their name to ClubDeportivoTenerife, or CD Tenerife, which name still remains today. However it took some years before Spanishfootball was organized in the way we know it today. In 1928 La Liga was founded, but CD Tenerife wasn’t successful enough as a team to be a part of it.
The team finally reached Segunda División of La Liga in 1953 which is right below the top teams. In 1961 they reached the top Primera División of La Liga which was a great success for the team. However, the team struggled a lot and got demoted back to the second and even the third division. This lasted for a period of about 30 years, the success of 1961 wasn’t reached until 1989.
1989 – 1999 sure was the golden age of CD Tenerife. They got into, and stayed, in Primera División for 10 consecutive years! In the seasons of 92/93 and 95/95 they finished in fifth place which is the teams greatest achievements to date. After 1999 the reached the Primera División two more times in the seasons of 01/02 and 09/10. However, both these times they finished in 19th place of the 20 teams which caused them to instantly get demoted back to Secunda División.
Today the team is in the Secunda División but they are by no means a top team. Only time will tell if the team will relive their great success of 1989-1999. It’s not likely, but it is possible.

The Canary Islands has it’s fair share of famous people. Many of them are successful athletes but there are also some Hollywood superstars that have their root on the islands.
First up in our list on the famous people of the Canary Islands is the football player David Silva. Born in 1986 on Gran Canaria he made a great career as a football player from a very young age. In 2003 he was picked up to join the Valencia B-team. Just one year later he joined the official Valencia team. However in the early stages of his career he was loaned out to Eibar at Celta where he played 35 and 34 matches for the teams.
In 2006, when he was just 20 years old, he returned to Valencia and became one of the star players of the team. In the season of 2008 and 2009 he wasn’t seen on the field for 3 months. However in a match in 2009 against Atletico Madrid he made a glorious return scoring two goals which resulted in a 3-1 win for Valencia. In 2010 he joined Manchester City and got the number 21 which he still wears today. For 10 years he made a great impression on the football scene. And in 2019 he stated that in the end of 2019-2020 season he would leave Manchester City.
Second on our list is the actor Javier Bardem. He have received lots of awards for his performances in various roles and is probably the greatest actor ever from the Canary islands. One of his most famous parts is “No country for old men” which became a massive hit. The following year he starred in a film called “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” directed by the prestigious film maker Woody Allen. 2017 he has also starred in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” which is a franchise that is very successful.

Don’t miss out on Veronica’s Strip when in Tenerife. This is the place to go if you want to enjoy a long night of partying!
The night is falling over Tenerife, the streets get quiet and the cities fall asleep. Everywhere but here, in Playa de las Americas the city transforms into something else. The light from the sun is replaced by the light from thousands of neon signs with names of bars and clubs. And on top of them all sits 3 great neon signs that reads Veronica 1, Veronica 2 and Veronica 3. The street is called Veronica’s strip and it’s the go to place if you with to have a good night in Tenerife. There’s a lot of variety in the places you can choose to go to. There are calmer pubs for taking a couple of rounds of beer as well as nightclubs where you can party until early in the morning.
How does a night at Veronica’s Strip play out then? It’s always going to be a late night that’s for sure. It’s reasonable to arrive at Veronica’s at 22 or maybe 21 and go to a Pub. As you got a lot of options you can go to several different places depending of what you feel like. If your a football-fan you can go to Linekers Bar named after the legendary English football player Gary Lineker. He played in Leicester, Barcelona and the English national team during his long career. If you’re English and want to have a chat with your fellow countrymen, this is the place for you.
After you have visited one, or several, pubs it’s time to go to the real clubs. I would suggest that you first enter the clubs at 01 but preferably at 02 because this is when they truly come alive. Because these night clubs sure have a massive emphasis on the night part. Tramps – the most popular club in all of Tenerife is located here. This club plays a lot of house and also R&B-music and sure lives up to it’s renown of being the number one club in Tenerife. The clubs other part is called “cocos, the ultimate partybar“. Here you can enjoy music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and the early 00s. This part of the club is a place for generations to meet and enjoy an amazing night together.
